I'm a solutions architect at VMware, Inc. specializing on Microsoft applications. What this really means is I focus on making MIcrosoft products, that we are all familiar with, work when virtualized, developing best practices, building reference architectures, etc. I've been at it in the IT industry for over 10 years with the majority of that time focusing on virtualizing tier-1 Microsoft applications such as Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, etc. Prior to joining the solutions team at VMware I was one of the first members of the IT Operations team. This was back when the data center was a small, very hot room full of 2U boxes running ESX 2.0, all with about 2-3 VMs each. We've come a long way and I'm grateful that I was able to witness the growth and contribute to it in a pretty substantial way. After about 5 years of IT at VMware and working my way up to the architecture team I thought I'd try something else. With all of the speaking engagements that were coming about during the last couple of years in IT due to our proliferation of VMware in production it seemed I should be doing that for a gig rather than having it consume my work days when I still had a day job. So here I am...spending half my time talking to customers and guiding down the path towards virtualization of MS tier-1 apps and the other half developing content around best practices and the such.

I have co-authored the book Virtualizing Microsoft Tier 1 Applications on vSphere, available from Sybex, spoken at technical conferences (such as VMworld) regarding virtualization of Microsoft applications, and try to contribute to many news groups and mailing lists on subjects such as Exchange, Active Directory, and Windows OS.

When I'm not in the office or on my laptop I'll most likely be hittin' the links (poorly, but nonetheless), snowboarding, or just hanging around the neighborhood. Hope you like what you find here, I'll keep it going as long as I can...or want to.
